Food Recovery Grants

The Food Recovery Grant support programs that recover surplus, edible food from businesses, organizations and/or farmer’s markets for distribution to people in need. These grants are open to businesses (food donors, including food producers, distributors, grocers, and cafeterias), nonprofit organizations and college food shelves in Ramsey and Washington counties.

Grant awards are a maximum of $20,000. Eligible expenses include:

  • Materials needed for food recovery activities, including collection materials (buckets, boxes, reusable bags, etc.) and materials to assist with food mobility (carts, pallets, etc.)
  • Storage costs, including rental and/or equipment purchase for storage
  • Transportation costs*, including vehicle rental if necessary
  • Infrastructure and equipment for use in food recovery and donation efforts, including refrigeration and shelving
  • Limited staffing costs related to food recovery/gleaning work
  • Funding for staff training (hourly wage for each employee for one hour of training)

*Transportation costs do not include the price of fuel.

The grant application period is now closed. Applicants will be notified of their approval or denial within a few weeks.
